All meals are included and they are delicious - you won’t go hungry!

Day 1

We make our way out of Adelaide through the scenic hills of the Fleurieu Peninsula. Arriving at Cape Jervis, we board the SeaLink ferry across Backstairs Passage (45 minute trip) to Penneshaw. Whilst crossing, it is not uncommon to have an escort of local dolphins that can be viewed from the dolphin deck on the vessel. On arrival in Penneshaw we are met by the local Guide. First stop is Rob’s Shearing, just outside Penneshaw, where we witness one of the Islands industries and learn how to shear a sheep. From here it’s not far to Pennington Bay, one of the Island’s other stunning beaches or Emu Ridge Eucalyptus Distillery before having lunch and visiting Seal Bay. At Seal Bay we take a guided walk along the beach which approximately 600 Australian Sea Lions call home – an experience and encounter you won’t forget! Just down the road from Seal Bay are the white sand dunes of the Little Sahara where some fun is to be had on the sand boards and sand toboggans before we arrive at our camp site, 6km away, at Vivonne Bay Eco-Adventures. Here you have the opportunity to spend some free time kayaking on the Harriet River or Boogie Boarding and surfing at Vivonne Bay Beach – FOR FREE –an experience that other companies charge for.  Alternatively, you can have a swim or snorkel, take a self-guided walk through the property tracks, go trail bike riding or simply kick back on the “Best beach in Australia” as it was recently voted. Back at camp there are plenty of complementary activities to keep you occupied before and after your BBQ meal. As darkness sets we head 5 minutes down the road to the other side of Vivonne Bay to witness the arrival of the Little Penguins as they return home from their daily fishing trips. The return to camp will reveal the appearance of our other nocturnal friends – Kangaroos, Tamar Wallabies and Possums. Relax around the fire (excepting summer months) or kick back on the deck with a glass of local wine before retiring to the comfort of your bed.

Day 2

After our breakfast (which includes the delicious Kangaroo Island honey and local jams and bread), we make our way to Flinders Chase National Park. On the way we get up close to more wildlife at Hanson Bay Koala Sanctuary. We arrive at Remarkable Rocks ahead of the crowds to clamber over and marvel at the huge granite boulders sculptured by nature over millions of years. Enjoying the spectacular coast and seascapes we head around to Admirals Arch at Cape Du Couedic where we watch the resident fur seals frolic in the ocean or sunbake on the rocks. During winter, whales are often seen around this part of our coast and dolphins are commonly seen any time of the year. After lunch at the Rocky River Visitors Centre which features an exceptional interpretive centre, we have an option of several walks (seasonal choice/guide discretion) before hitting the spectacular North Coast and its many idyllic beaches (seasonal). We then return to Penneshaw allowing time to purchase dinner (own expense) before returning to the mainland and Adelaide. Time and weather permitting several stops may be made en route to Penneshaw, and may include Prospect Hill, Pelican Feeding or Ironstone Hill, Kelly Hill Caves (guided tour at own cost).
